chocolate sauce

Nothing tastes quite as good as a homemade sauce or gravy but because we are so time poor it seems excessive to take the time to construct your own so to buy a ready made pre packaged bottle in a store is the easier option, but I can promise you that making your own is fast and easy and there is no comparison in the flavour of your homemade to the store bought sauce.

Following are 10 essential rules to making your own sauces and gravies.

Homemade Green Tomato Pickles.

Hello all you would be pickle makers.

IMG_0382Don’t be put off by the length of what is written here.  It seems long because I have spelled it out very plainly as a step by step for anyone who has never ventured into the world of making their own pickles.  It really is a very quick and easy process.

I haven’t overrun the site with photographs as I don’t think it is needed as I think the explanations are clear enough.

What to do with overripe grapes

Hello again.

 Grapes nowadays are available all year round in most places.  Due to this, we tend to get a bit complacent with them and they are left too long not being eaten.  Before we know it we don’t particularly want to eat them because of the state they are in.

However, have you ever thought of cooking them?

To find out how;

Best way to Freeze meat

Hello again.  Here is another time saving tip for busy people.

This is about freezing meat and I hope you will find very helpful.

 If you don’t have one of these;

It would do you well to invest in one. It takes all of the air out of the bag and you will find your meat won’t get freezer burn, which in turn allows it to be frozen longer.

Another great tip for crusts.

Here we are again talking about those pesky crusts. I hope you have had a look at my other post on crusts and how I turned them into corn and cheese fritters.

 This time we are going to make a delicious stuffing for a chicken or a turkey.

It is so simple to turn crusts into bread crumbs. There really is no excuse for using store bought stuffing when it is so easy to do yourself.

Here is the one I made recently so easy and so delicious even my fussy husband and grandchildren ate it.

pasta Hi everyone Liz here thought I would share a new recipe I tried last night  pasta with garlic oil chilli and chicken

It was really easy and quick to make and its just as good if you would rather have it as a vegetarian dish by leaving out the chicken .

I served it with a nice salad and some warm crusty bread.

Chris is really good about taking photographs showing you step by step how to do things but I keep forgetting until the end so my apologies I only have the end result to show you :-D

A great tip – How to freeze bacon

Hello again.

Have you ever needed bacon for a recipe and you don’t have any?  Do you go to the Deli and buy a couple of slices when you need it?

Having bacon on hand was very perplexing for me for many years until I was shown how to freeze it.  You can’t just freeze the whole packet because you can not separate the slices when you need it.

Here is what you do;

Big Cook Fest In Merimbula

Chris cleaning up her mess after dropping dinner on the floor.

Hi everyone

Last week Chris and I took ourselves off for a week long cook fest in beautiful downtown Merimbula on the NSW south coast we had a great time and Chris sure cooked up a storm I learned so much about using leftovers and not wasting food that I have been converted from my wasteful habits to saving leftovers ( although I do stop short of eating peas in scrambled egss for breakfast :-D and have to admit we really do as a western society waste tons of food.

The plan was to have a cocktail hour an entree and a main course each evening (we stayed away from deserts because we figured we were eating plenty anyway and didn’t need it )We will pass the recipes on to you in the next few post although Chris has already posted a couple, the hummus one was the first and I have to say its a wonderful healthy snack or nibble, try it for yourself I think you will love it

I am not quite sure what Chris was planning on night 2 but dinner ended up on the floor and I cried laughing as I photographed her cleaning up her mess…despite dropping dinner we still ended up with plenty of delicious food to eat

Stay tuned for more simple cheap and healthy recipes .

A good exercise for the heart is to bend down and help another up

Liz
